Pyetjet e Bera Shpesh
How does YerBak assess earthquake risk for a property?
YerBak uses AFAD (Turkey Disaster and Emergency Management Authority) seismic data, including PGA (Peak Ground Acceleration) values, fault line distances, soil type classification, and historical earthquake records within a 100km radius. For non-Turkish properties, we use USGS global seismic data and Google Earth Engine SRTM terrain analysis.
What is PGA and why does it matter for property buyers?
PGA (Peak Ground Acceleration) measures the maximum ground shaking expected at a location during an earthquake, expressed as a fraction of gravity (g). Higher PGA values mean stronger expected shaking. This directly affects building safety requirements, insurance costs, and long-term property value.
Does the earthquake risk report include soil type analysis?
Yes. Soil type significantly affects earthquake amplification — soft soils can amplify shaking by 2-3x compared to bedrock. Our reports use SRTM elevation and slope data combined with JRC water occurrence data as proxies for NEHRP site classification, providing a terrain-adjusted safety bonus score.
Which countries are covered by the earthquake risk analysis?
Earthquake risk analysis is available in all 45 countries supported by YerBak. Turkey uses the most detailed AFAD data source. All other countries use global seismic databases (USGS), Google Earth Engine terrain data (SRTM elevation, slope analysis), and JRC Global Surface Water for flood/liquefaction risk assessment.
Is earthquake risk included in all report types?
Yes, earthquake and safety risk analysis is included in all three report types: Quick (3 credits), Standard (4 credits), and Investment (5 credits). Standard and Investment reports additionally include terrain-adjusted scoring using satellite elevation data for more precise risk assessment.
How accurate is the earthquake risk data?
Our earthquake risk data comes from official government sources (AFAD for Turkey, USGS globally) and is as accurate as the underlying seismic hazard maps. We also use 30-meter resolution SRTM satellite data for terrain analysis. Note that our reports provide location-level risk context — they do not replace site-specific geotechnical surveys for construction purposes.
